The Holiday Inn Grand Cayman is a very lovely hotel. I was told it was 'out of the way' and it is only slightly such. Maybe 5 minutes further way than any other hotel. It has an fabulous staff. The ladies that were on the Front Desk the night I arrived which was 26Apr were extremely helpful and friendly and welcoming. Isaiah in the restaurant on Monday morning for breakfast was pleasant, helpful and kept checking on me. The food itself was good not fabulous but it worked.
Room was very spacious, spotlessly clean - the entire hotel is very clean, new and attractive. This is important to me in the islands.
Pool was quiet large and nice, beach is ok - it's not Seven Mile Beach but it has a nice dock and great views.
internet was top notch - I was there on business so that was important to me.

This hotel was nearly half the price of the other hotels in the area, but it comes with major sacrifices. These include: location, service, and property condition.
First, the hotel location is on the beach of the sound, and this isn't a beautiful sandy beach. There are chairs and a dock to enjoy the view of the water, but it's nothing like Seven Mile Beach. I had no desire to go into the ocean water at Holiday Inn. Second, the hotel is about 2km/1.5 miles from Seven Mile Beach or any restaurants besides the property restaurant. Taxis are expensive and it's a sweaty walk. If you like to be tucked away from the rest of the world and stuck with the mediocre service and food at Holiday Inn, this is your place!
The resort can be relaxing, but sometimes seems almost too dead making you wonder if you made the right choice. Then on weekends, locals come in the back way and invade the pool with lots of children. There is no effort by the hotel to prevent this from happening. The pool area is hardly attended by staff and that means it is rarely cleaned up after people leave trash. Don't expect anyone to come by and ask you if you would like any poolside drinks.
I had breakfast for 6 days there. Mostly because it was too far to go anywhere else and a taxi makes the breakfast too expensive. Service was inconsistent. When it was bad, I waited too long for initial service, and often didn't see the server after food was delivered. Coffee was terrible. Food was not bad, but could be better and more consistent. Staff sometimes didn't know what foods were available or on the menu.
Drinks at the bar were pretty good, and bar tenders were cordial most of the time.
Most of the grounds are clean, but there are items here and there that make you feel like you made the wrong choice. Broken furniture, broken door handles, a guest room door that was very sticky due to the excessive paint around the edges, and even cars on jacks without wheels just outside the property.
Overall, I wish I would have stayed somewhere else for location and service quality. However, thanks to the fact that it is on Grand Cayman, it really helps you ignore the bad parts.

We stayed here because we got a great deal at this hotel. We were concerned about the distance of the hotel from the main attractions and the lack of nice beach. However, we were told the hotel had a shuttle. The first two days the shuttle dropped us off but never picked us up. On the 3rd day we waited over an hour for the shuttle to pick us up and we had to call the hotel 2x to remind them that we were still waiting. On the 4th day we were told that the shuttle stopped running at 9pm. When we got there at 8pm, they told us that the shuttle stops running at 5. Taxis are expensive in the Caymans. I will say when we first complained about the shuttle the person at the front desk was really nasty to us and just stated that it was complimentary so we should just be okay with it. The next person we complained to actually reimbursed us the cost of the cab and was very apologetic.
The food at the restaurant was good. Please note we only had breakfast there. The internet is great in the restaurant and the hotel lobby but quite iffy in the hotel room. Also we could hear everything that happened in the room next door. I will say the rooms were nice, up to date, and quite large. The grounds were well kept.
